Blast From the Past: “Cold Day in July” by Dixie Chicks, 2000

Thought this is a fitting song to end out July with it being a rainy day where I’m at right now. “Cold Day in July” was released in April 2000 as the fourth single off of the Dixie Chicks successful Fly album. It went on to be a top 10 hit in July 2000 on the Billboard country charts. The song was also recorded by Suzy Bogguss in 1992 for her Voices in the Wind album. While Bogguss’s original is good the Dixie Chicks take this song to the next level.

My Brand NEW Blog

Hello, I’m John and this is my new music blog. I’m a big music lover with country music being my roots. While I love the genre of music I feel it has gone downhill in the last decade so expect some posts about that. I also grew up listening to the great country artists of the 1990s and that included a lot of women artists like Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Lee Ann Womack, Shania Twain, Pam Tillis, Faith Hill, Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Dixie Chicks, as well as many others.  Country music played these less and less as the 2000s decade went on for multiple reasons. So expect a few nostalgic posts about them as well as some bitter ones on the state of country music today. I also love listening to many other genres of music from modern pop to classic rock along with some hip-hop and rap. But more on that later!

Also, as much as I love music I like to talk about other subjects like tv shows/movies as well as life in general so expect a variety of posts if you continue to come back for more. For now I think I’m just going to post an oldie but goodie music video from the Dixie Chicks to kick this thing off! Stay tuned…
